Fun with the Pallet Knife!

"Redemption"
I had some fun with the pallet knife this week!  I've only used them before to mix paint, never to actually "paint" with...I really enjoyed the effects.

Chillin'

I painted this from a photo we'd taken on vacation last summer in the Outer Banks (KDH).  Sometimes I feel like we're stalkers when we're taking pictures of strangers! Ha!  I'd wanted to paint him for a while, but the final inspiration to start was the DPW Painting Challenge "The Seated Figure Challenge".  I enjoy seeing all the different submissions, and of course pushing myself to paint something new!

Tuscan Hay Bales

I'm on a roll this month "finishing" paintings I started but never finished.  So thankful for the renewed inspiration and passion!  I started this at the same time as the previous "hay bale"~ can't say enough how much I enjoyed playing with the color!

Tuscan Afternoon Hay Bales

I had a strong desire to paint some hay bales last year after being inspired by another artist's work.  This is another one that I started (maybe last spring?) but just couldn't get back to finish.  The play of color was fun!

Fearrington Cottage

I'm really feeling inspired this week to finish some paintings that have been lingering around my studio unfinished!  I started this right before the holidays.  Maybe the inspiration came because we drove by Fearrington Village the other day on our way to Chapel Hill???  LOVE that place!

Dominican

Looking for some "warm" inspiration today, I found it in photos from a trip to the Dominican Republic years ago!  I was going for a "representational abstract" style with this one~

Unfinished Business

Over the Christmas holiday we visited our families in Virginia Beach.  While there, we went to the Chrysler Museum.  I hadn't been there since I was VERY young!  They have a great Impressionist section and I was able to see a Renior, a Matisse, a Francisco Gras (new to me), and a few others.  I left with some inspiration!  After some reflecting (see previous post!), I got back in my studio.  I came across another unfinished painting and knew it was the next to be finished!  It was another of Cathy's photo's from somewhere in Europe- I hope you enjoy~

Hello 2012!

The beginning of a new year is a time to reflect back on the past year.  For me, 2011 was challenging to say the least, in many ways, but also full of blessings.  I’ve dealt with so many struggles this year, but one lesson I learned was to find the joy in everything- even in the darkest hours.  There’s ALWAYS something to be thankful for, even when you’re not feeling very thankful.  When the waves came one after the other, and I felt like I was going to drown, my faith carried me through in some amazing ways.

I’ve honestly been struggling a lot with my “new identity” as an artist this year.  I was very successful in my past field and didn't realize how much of my self worth was wrapped up in it.  Going from being an expert in your field to not knowing anything wore on my confidence, and I'd start longing for the good old days when I knew what I was doing. But the past is gone now and I've decided I’m not looking back anymore.  I believe if you're always looking behind you, you can't see where you're going.  It’s time to step up and embrace the gifts God gave me and the opportunity He’s given me to use them.

I truly believe I’m entering a new season which will be full of blessings and opportunities. I’m committed to re-focusing on painting, "owning" my gift, being more involved in the industry, exploring other artistic avenues, being content right where I am, doing the best I can, and “preparing for rain”!  I’m looking forward to everything God has in store for me this year!

Whether you’re family, a friend, a customer, or someone who just enjoys my work, THANK YOU for all your continued support!  My prayer for you is to have an incredible New Year overflowing with blessings!

With much appreciation,
Christy
xoxo
